About Us

bangor maine, chorus
In the beginning, the Bangor Community Chorus was a mixed chorus. But male attendance began to wane, and for many years it was a women's chorus. However, by the early l980s, men began joining again, and it soon became a mixed chorus. The combination works well, and continues to this day.

..........Five directors have conducted the Bangor Community Chorus. Marian Vafiades, one of it's founders, holds the 'conductor longevity record', and is credited with building the group into a community resource.

..........Traditional concerts are presented by the Chorus each December and late Spring, as well as others, which may be requested during the year. Through these 35 + years, no matter how our members have been grouped, we have been able to provide our audiences with a repertoire of masterworks, show tunes, popular songs, and a few 'old chestnuts'. And since we added a Cabaret section to each concert, where members of the Chorus perform solos and ensembles, our programs have remained varied and interesting.

..........The Bangor Community Chorus is always looking to recruit new members. If you love to sing and have fun, come join us!

40 YEARS OF SUCCESS. . . and FUN

The Bangor Community Chorus has been an artistic presence for the greater Bangor community for over 35 years. Founded in the early 1960s, it's first performance was held at the Ski Horse Lodge on Ski Horse Mountain in Dixmont. It has been performing at scheduled concerts and guest appearances ever since. Several of the original members still sing with the present group, and one of them, pianist Naomi Hall, has been the volunteer accompanist since 1975! All have lively stories to tell of various adventures and misadventures.
